Introvert At Work
Mr. Devadi Nuruddin Hasankhan heads the maintenance department of Ghatge Patil Transports, in charge of engine overhauling and truck maintenance. He is involved in the Research & Development of optimized operations and improving the engine life of our trucks. He became a part of Ghatge family in 1984 under Ghatge Patil Automobiles. He was narrating his interview where he was asked to inspect a system. The test was to identify a missing unit and diagnose as to why the car won't start. Having a knack for inspecting and exploring various automobile components since he was a kid, it didn't take much time for him to identify that a unit from the fuel system is missing. Further, after checking the electrical system, he identified the wiring has been interchanged too. He patiently tested and identified the unit and soon Ghatge Patil Automobiles appointed him as a Senior Section Service engineer.
It took me some time to get him talking, he is an introvert by nature. After a few phone calls and small talks between our training sessions in Kolhapur, he talked about his love for engines. He said his fascination towards automobiles and engines in specific took roots since he was a kid. He could spend hours digging inside the bonnet of the car. At the age of 57, his affection for cars is same as any kid who would get excited for Hotwheels car toys.
He joined Ghatge Patil Transports in the year 2015. He is the kind who can get things done but if asked to narrate or talk about his work, he will have only few words to support it. Mr. Devadi has implemented numerous cost saving techniques, right from using LED tail lights to building in-house repair works, his actions speak louder than words.
In his career, he has worked with many cars like Esu, Mazda, Zonga Jeep, Nissan and Honda. With Ghatge Patil Transports, he tries each day to make the assets cost effective. A simple thing like saving a waste cloth, using a hardware washer sustainably can go a long way in having effective maintenance and operations process. He said that there's a need to change the mentality of people at work. We all complain that the money is not enough, the expenses are over the roof and fail to realize that we create so much waste and generate expenses in the process.
Devadi said," I don't think shortage of funds or capital is a problem, my only problem is that the system needs to be cost-effective and for that the people need to change which is more crucial than getting funds in place. If at each step, I incorporate optimized usage of my resources, in our case for trucks and machinery, then the engine life will gradually increase which will cut down my expenses in the long run just like they say "A stitch in time saves nine". So there is no question of extra capital needs. We must maintain our resources and value them rather than complaining about unfulfilled and fancy demands.
