Artificial Intelligence & Transportation: Boon or Bane

Image
We have grown up watching 'Small Wonder', 'Irona' the Robot Maid from Richie Rich's castle and many Cyborgs who we fancied on Television. We can recall 'Tarzan' the wonder car which was supposedly a ghost-driven car and trucks from our beloved show, 'Bob The Builder'. Few years ago, such perfect simulations of  humans seemed believable on the screen but the developments in Artificial Intelligence has amazed us with possibilities which are not unlike what we had seen on TV as kids. It is much-hyped specially in the logistics sector where there is news about driver-less Ubers and Tesla's semi-automated trucks.  With the advances in technology and AI everyday, it is important to note what lies ahead for the transport/ trucking industry. AI is largely dominated by IT Sector but the need to understand it's implications in all the industries in an urgent need today.    Moving a simple parcel across borders and o...

There are people who crib about the struggles of life at work, curse people as their routine and then there are people who smile through everything making each setback smaller each day. Prashant Toraskar joined Ghatge Patil Transports in 2013 as an Assistant Manager in Human Resources Department. Prashant has seen the company through all it's phases and forms, be it the most hectic time for the operations, the annual events at GPT, re-organizing of the management etc. He has seen more faces in the organization than any of the employees currently.        He says," My hometown is Kolhapur so I was keen on joining Ghatge Patil. Being present during the crucial years which changed the face of GPT, I know how things go about here." How do you manage to keep your cool and a happy face round the clock each time? I have simple rules that I follow be it at work or in your personal life. ...

A Second Generation Bond

In a country like India where few can afford luxuries of buying Zara, Van Huesen, & Ralph Lauren; major chunk does not mind roaming the streets of Bandra, Surat and Bangkok for eclectic, colorful and variety of fabrics to design by themselves. We Indians love our food, clothes and all things that appear gaudy; we seek and hunt down the best garment supplier and try our best to produce a beautiful designer wear with mixing laces that would give any Sabyasachi or Manish Malhotra creation a run for their money. That's the thing about the garment industry; it has a lot to offer for everyone in the chain from buying the garment in meters, cutting it into pieces to creating a style for every occasion.  It's easy for the brands to see how they can find the potential customers but without the support of manufacturers with the best of sartorial skills, the wholesalers and the third party suppliers, it's a long and d...

Mr. Champalal Kothari, now a 68 year old man from a small town of Ahmednagar was taught early in his life to acquire a business life. In a native village called Thitesangvi, Kirana stores were in immense demand and Champalal being fully aware of this did not waste much time in opening his distribution. He takes it as a pleasure to make every product available to his people and finds joy is fulfilling the needs of his town.                        All was well for many years until 1975. The flooding of Sina dam near Ahmednagar wiped away every bit of his business. He said it was a dark time for his family. One could clearly make out the ups and downs of his life from his eyes and his experienced business words like a typical Marwari. He said,"Soon when the impact of the floods lessened we decided to move to Ahmednagar city where there would still be s...

Mr. Devadi Nuruddin Hasankhan heads the maintenance department of Ghatge Patil Transports, in charge of engine overhauling and truck maintenance. He is involved in the Research & Development of optimized operations and improving the engine life of our trucks. He became a part of Ghatge family in 1984 under Ghatge Patil Automobiles. He was narrating his interview where he was asked to inspect a system. The test was to identify a missing unit and diagnose as to why the car won't start. Having a knack for inspecting and exploring various automobile components since he was a kid, it didn't take much time for him to identify that a unit from the fuel system is missing. Further, after checking the electrical system, he identified the wiring has been interchanged  too. He patiently tested and identified the unit and soon Ghatge Patil Automobiles appointed him as a Senior Section Service engineer.  ...

Spirits are merry and holiday parties are plenty during the wonderful month of December. Although you may have already hit more parties than you can remember, the holiday season is far from over. The year does not end without indulging yourself in the chocolates, desserts and some more desserts. Giving an ode to our hard-work during the stressful March-endings, month end work load and never ending  over-time is half-done if we do not give the confectionery conclusion to the year 2017! After all, it takes a lot of effort to make it to the end of the year. We Indians have always been huge fans of feasts; our country is full of people who love festivals and their food. A different dessert for every festival, it is either bound by our culture or the season of particular fruits! We have always loved to blend our religion with food which reflects in our culture.                  ...

Prasad Deshpande, on making life a well-scripted program!

Image
One of the peculiar and the most prominent feature about Ghatge Patil Transports is that it has a special connect with it's employees. The founder Mr. Vasantrao Ghatge was known to be a people's person. To him, the employees were his own children and he received abundant gratitude from his people. Years after the demise of Vasantrao, the same culture and love was passed on to the next generation and the family of Ghatge Patil now stands at a number of 3000 members.        One such person who speaks highly of the care and love given to him is Mr. Prasad Deshpande. Prasad is the IT head, someone who built an ERP for the organization and killed the hours of endless manual work. He has a role to play in each department each day and of-course it goes without saying that he is THE busiest man in Ghatge Patil Transports. It was near impossible to find a window and interview him in...
